ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Six MileCreek

The Economic Development Department is responsible for economic, tourism and community development.

The economy of the Bombala Council area is based on traditional farming and timber. We currently have one softwood processing plant with an expansion planned for that facility in the near future. The outlook for the local area is bright as a result of increased commodity prices particularly lamb and beef and the planned expansion of the softwood processing facility. Council is actively involved in supporting and developing specialty producers within the area and has recently launched the Platypus Country Producers brand. This brand covers a wide variety of products including gourmet meat rabbits, traditionally made rich fruit cakes, a large range of conserves, lavender products, dried herbs, fruit and vegetables.

Bombala is the service centre of the area and offers a wide variety of retail shops, health services, financial services, library and services for the farming and timber sectors. Villages such as Cathcart and Delegate also provide services including the newly established Borderline Art Gallery at Delegate.

If you are thinking of relocating Platypus Country, Bombala Region may well be just right for you! We offer assistance with the Development Application process and we are rated in the top 10 NSW Councils for Development turnarounds.

Council is committed to enhancing community development right across its area and has recently undertaken community development plans for four of its smaller locations Ando, Bibbenluke, Bombala, Bungarby, Cathcart, Creewah and Delegate.

Tourism is playing an increasingly important role in the local economy. Council has formed partnerships with surrounding Councils to ensure a regional approach to tourism development occurs. Currently projects to support motorcycle tourism and eco tourism are being undertaken. These projects will build on the work undertaken to foster the development of the specialty producer sector.
